Organigram Granted Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium Award

With summer business conferences out of the way, awards season is now officially arriving in the North American cannabis industry.

Moncton-based Organigram Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: OGI; TSX: OGI) is one of the latest cannabis companies to receive recognition for their role in the fledgling licensed market.

The Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium’s (EMC) annual Awards of Excellence event was held in Toronto this week, at which Organigram was bestowed the Outstanding Member Contribution award. The company was also nominated and became a finalist for the Outstanding Manufacturer category.

Organigram’s SVP of Operational Services Jeff Purcell commented on the company’s recognition at the awards event:

Producing high quality cannabis in a state-of-the-art indoor environment, Organigram operates in an interesting cross section of horticulture, consumer packaged goods and manufacturing. We are very proud to accept this award and support EMC, a group that sets the standard for manufacturing excellence in Canada.

Organigram held a strategic interest group event for the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium last month at the company’s Moncton grow facility, training 50 EMC members on cannabis product practices.

In other awards news, grower Agnes Kwasniewska from HEXO Corp. (TSX: HEXO; NYSE: HEXO) took home the Master Grower Of The Year trophy at the Grow Up Conference and Expo last month.

Other awards ceremonies are scheduled for November and December, although the end-of-year awards season may be overshadowed by a historic downturn in stock prices industry-wide and a number of major scandals since recreational usage was legalized last year.

The Lift & Co. Corp. (TSXV: LIFT) 2018 Canadian Cannabis Awards notably saw multiple major awards granted to CannTrust, a company that would go on to have growing and selling licenses revoked after an unlicensed grow scheme was discovered by Health Canada.

Entries for nominating individual cannabis product categories are opened through Oct. 25 for the upcoming 2019 edition of that annual awards ceremony, with the winners to be honoured during a gala at the Royal York on Nov. 8.

In other Organigram news, VP of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations Cameron Bishop just joined several international cannabis advisory boards, while the company was additionally granted Health Canada approval for 17 extra grow rooms last month.
