While marijuana store locations were sparse in Manitoba when the Cannabis Act first went into effect back in October, new locations are now on the verge of opening as Delta 9 Cannabis (TSXV: NINE; OTC: VRNDF) was granted conditional approval for a store in Brandon.
While waiting on approval for additional stores in Thompson and Winnipeg, Delta 9 will begin construction on a 4,800 sq. ft. superstore in Brandon this week. The new storefront will reside in the former location of a liquor store at the Shoppers Mall and will require extensive renovations.
Among the Mall’s 90 other tenants is a Shoppers Drug Mart, a company which recently made moves into the cannabis industry as well.
Following the renovation’s completion, the new Delta 9 superstore must be inspected by Manitoba’s Liquor Gaming and Cannabis Authority before it can officially open.
Besides selling cannabis directly, the store will serve as an education hub to offer Delta 9-branded Cannabis 101 courses on how to use marijuana and associated products.
Chief Executive Officer John Arbuthnot commented:
“There are many people who may be completely new to cannabis or may not have tried it for years or even decades. Part of our mission as a company is to make sure that our customers have the best information possible for an enjoyable experience.”
Delta 9 Vice President of Retails Operations Al Roney also had this to say about the upcoming store opening:
“Our retail strategy has been to build in the best available properties we can find, with the highest amount of foot and vehicular traffic. This strategy has worked very well at our St. Vital outlet in Winnipeg and where we have completed over 36,000 transactions to date. We fully expect to see the same kind of success in Brandon, and we’re very excited to start working on renovating the property over the next few weeks.”
Delta 9 previously made headlines when the company’s Justin Trudope dried flower product had to be renamed as the Cannabis Act outlawed celebrity name usage.
