Toronto-based Lift & Co. Corp. (TSXV: LIFT) held the 2018 Canadian Cannabis Awards (CCA) event this weekend, which was hosted by radio / TV personality Rick Campanelli and celebrated excellence in the marijuana industry.

This was the first edition of the awards to take place after the legalization of adult recreational marijuana thanks to the passage of the Cannabis Act.

More than 17,000 votes were cast by members of the public between September and October — a 50% increase over the previous year— with a committee of Lift & Co. judges determining the final winners in each category.

Chief Executive Officer Matei Olaru had this to say about the festivities:

Lift & Co. as a platform exists to foster and strengthen connections in our industry, and educate and inform Canadians about cannabis. The CCAs underscore this strategy by providing a vital mark of distinction for both winners and nominees, allowing them to demonstrate value and quality back to Canadians, while emboldening essential trust in our burgeoning world-class industry.

The Deal Of The Year award unsurprisingly went to Constellation’s landmark $5 billion dollar investment of Canopy Growth (TSX: WEED; NYSE: CGC). Co-CEO Bruce Linton of Canopy Growth was also bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Broken Coast Cannabis managed to win the Top Reviewed Product of 2018 with their Ruxton 3 Sour OG product, which features a sour diesel terpene profile. The Cannabis Product Of The Year award was given to Elixir CBD Peppermint from Hydropothecary, a brand owned by HEXO Corp. (TSE: HEXO).

CannTrust (TSC: TRST) dominated the awards overall, taking home the Licensed Producer Of The Year title, as well as snagging awards for Top Sativa Flower (OG Kush), Top Hybrid Flower (Blueberry Kush), and both the Top High CBD Oil and Top Balanced Oil categories for their CBD drop products.

Chief Executive Officer Peter Aceto commented on the slew of awards:

“I am so proud to be part of this team. CannTrust is full of brilliant, caring people with great skill, who work collaboratively and care immensely about our patients and consumers but also our wonderful cannabis plants. What is so incredible about these awards is that they were chosen by consumers.”

Aceto went on to say, “We thank our dedicated team; we thank our customers; we thank the voters; and we thank Lift & Co. for hosting these impressive awards that celebrate excellence in the Canadian cannabis industry.”

The full list of winners in each of the 18 categories can be found here. Additionally, five cannabis strains from across the winners are being combined into a CCA multipack that will be distributed in the coming months, with full details to arrive shortly.
